Agência FAPESP – From October 19 to 30, 2026, the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the State University of Campinas (FCM-UNICAMP) will host the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Obesity in Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

The event is funded by FAPESP and is part of the São Paulo School of Advanced Science (SPSAS) program. It aims to contribute to the training of young researchers in obesity and metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.

The comprehensive course content will cover epidemiological, nutritional, genetic, epigenetic, molecular, and cellular aspects, as well as advances in preventive and therapeutic interventions.

The target audience is undergraduate and doctoral students as well as postdoctoral researchers conducting research projects in fields related to obesity, metabolism, and diabetes. A total of 100 spots will be distributed among projects carried out in Brazil and abroad.

The SPSAS in Obesity will provide a stipend, on a reimbursement basis, to cover the cost of airfare, travel insurance, other transportation expenses, and per diem. This benefit will be granted to participants funded by foreign agencies conducting their research outside of Brazil, as well as to those conducting their research in Brazil, provided they are not FAPESP scholarship recipients.

Candidates must complete a form on the event website and submit the following documents in English by March 31: a statement of purpose written by the applicant; a summary of no more than 500 words on the research project being developed; a letter of recommendation from the advisor; an updated academic transcript; a FAPESP-style academic summary or a brief curriculum vitae; and proof of affiliation or receipt of a grant from a funding agency.

The school will take place in the FCM-UNICAMP auditorium, located at Rua Tessália Vieira de Camargo, 126, Cidade Universitária, Campinas, São Paulo. Activities will be conducted in English.
