By Elton Alisson  |  Agência FAPESP – In December 2023, FAPESP signed a cooperation agreement with China-LAC Technology Transfer Center (CLTTC) to foster scientific and technological collaboration between researchers affiliated with the Chinese entity and with universities and research institutions in São Paulo state via joint funding of projects in areas to be specified by a steering committee in each call for proposals.

CLTTC was unveiled in June 2023 at Dongguan in Guangdong Province. Its aims include construction of a platform that will both support the work of Chinese diplomats and promote economic development, exchange, cooperation in science, technology and innovation, and technology transfer between China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

“Among other initiatives to be undertaken via this agreement, we plan to hold a second edition of FAPESP Week in China and establish collaborations between Chinese and Brazilian researchers affiliated with universities and research institutions in São Paulo state by developing joint programs and research funding,” said Marco Antonio Zago, President of FAPESP.

Organized in partnership with universities and research institutions in different countries around the world, FAPESP Week is a series of seminars that bring together researchers with outstanding work in their respective fields to discuss ongoing projects and propose future collaborations. The first FAPESP Week was held in Washington DC, in the United States, in October 2011.

Nineteen more editions have since been held, one of which took place at Peking University in Beijing, China, in April 2014. The latest edition was held in France in November 2019, after which the series was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It will resume in 2024.

“We’re delighted to sign the agreement with FAPESP and eager to host FAPESP Week in Dongguan. We believe this partnership between China-LAC Technology Transfer Center and FAPESP will bring mutual benefits and opportunities,” said Fanjing Zhang, CLTTC’s Project Director.
