The agreement paves the way for a partnership between the Free State of Bavaria and São Paulo state.

Agência FAPESP – FAPESP, the São Paulo State Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences (THI) in Germany have signed a five-year cooperation agreement for the joint funding of research projects.

In each project, THI and FAPESP will be responsible for funding researchers in Germany and São Paulo state respectively. The amount allocated to fund collaborative research projects will be defined by the steering committee in each call for proposals.

The agreement was signed during a visit to Bavaria (Germany) in early April by Marco Antonio Zago, President of FAPESP, and Vahan Agopyan, São Paulo State Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation. Walter Schober, President of THI, and the directors of its research institutes Carissma, Almotion and InES participated in the ceremony.

The partnership between Bavaria and São Paulo promises to make significant contributions to research on mobility, energy and security.

“This is a historic moment for our work,” said Anne-Sophie Kopytynski, Managing Director of The Aware Center. “São Paulo is Brazil’s cutting-edge research hub, and FAPESP can complement our research projects with a large budget.”
