The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) are inviting research proposals under the “Understanding and Sustaining Brazilian Biome Resources” call.
This call is supported by the UK through the Newton Fund and is only open to joint UK-Brazil applications.
NERC and FAPESP are seeking to support research on complementary Brazilian biomes (including Amazon, Atlantic rainforest, Caatinga and Cerrado biomes) that will improve understanding of not only the role of biodiversity in the functioning of ecosystems but also the drivers and impact of change and management and restoration options.
NERC will provide up to £2 million of funding to eligible UK-based researchers, and FAPESP will provide a matched, equivalent effort to eligible São Paulo State-based researchers.
For each proposal, the “Case for Support” must have a PI in the UK and one or more PIs in the State of São Paulo.
Each PI in the State of São Paulo must submit a research proposal to FAPESP under one of the funding lines cited in the call: Thematic, Young Investigator, or SPEC.
The “Case for Support” must clearly describe the contribution expected from each PI in Sao Paulo, and each proposal submitted by each of the PIs in São Paulo must follow the norms for the chosen FAPESP funding line.
It is expected that 2-3 project proposals of up to three years’ duration will be funded. Applications to this call must be in English.
The application deadline is September 2nd, 2015, 16:00 (BST).
The call for proposals is available at www.fapesp.br/9499.
