By José Tadeu Arantes | Agência FAPESP – On March 7, in the presence of Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Spain’s Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and FAPESP to conduct collaborative research projects under a bilateral technological cooperation program initially called the “FAPESP-CDTI Innovation Program”.
María del Mar Fernández-Palacios Carmona, Spanish ambassador to Brazil, and Marco Antonio Zago, President of FAPESP, signed the MoU during a ceremony held at the Cervantes Institute in São Paulo.
CDTI is a state-owned R&D enterprise subordinated to the Spanish Ministry for Science, Innovation and Universities. Its purpose is to raise the technological level of the nation’s business organizations. The program will promote cooperation between entities in Spain and São Paulo state via projects involving technological development, innovation, and technology transfer.
The priorities will be projects involving information and communications technology (ICT), agri-food technology, biotechnology, electronics, logistics and transportation, and chemicals. Projects must be innovative and conducted by companies and/or institutions in both countries.
The MoU will last five years, with the possibility of renewal for another three years if the two parties sign an addendum for this purpose.
